Birthday Boy
I am sitting here, feeling reflective and appreciative of the person Ethan has become. I continue to be in awe of his kind heart, his generosity with loving others, and his sincere gratitude for a wide variety of things and experiences in his life.
All semester, I was unable to help in his Kindergarten class, go on field trips, etc. because all of the classes I taught were in the mornings. Ethan attends half-day Kindergarten - in the mornings.
But, as of May 15th, my semester is over! Now, I'm free to participate in a variety of activities and events with my little boy. And yesterday, I had the BEST time helping with Kindergarten Game Day. I was in charge of the parachute activity. Although I was exhausted by the end of two hours, it was so much fun encouraging almost 100 Kindergarten students to work together, pay attention, and have lots of giggles. And, what a work-out!
Ethan got to be "parent pick-up" because I was there until the end of his normal school hours. So, we spent the entire rest of the day together! He picked out new Crocs for the summer, new socks that are bright and colorful (just like him), then we ordered lunch to take home and eat together. Ethan got to play video games while he waited at the salon for me to get my haircut. Then, we ran errands to get supplies for his birthday party this weekend.
Because Ethan was good during all of this, I let him choose an activity. We ended up spending almost an hour looking at the animals and learning about them from the sales reps at PetCo. It was awesome. Awesome! I decided to surprise Ethan with dinner at Red Robin, and a yummy chocolate milk shake to top off the already sweet and enjoyable day.
I love this little man. This little person with a big personality. He makes me laugh out loud and feel thankful for even small moments together. I am a very lucky mama. I decided to jot down this seemingly-mundane memory of our day together because as of today, Ethan is six years old. His last day as a five-year-old was one of the best days I've had in a long time.
