Ethan Reads!!

A few months ago, Ethan had expressed a sincere interest in learning to read.  We started doing sight words on his iPad and practiced reading BOB Books.  He was easily frustrated and we eventually waned on our focus of teaching him to read.

 Then, last week, Ethan picked up a book called Dragon Egg... and read it all by himself!

 With this renewed enthusiasm, Mike and I decided to invest in a bunch of 'Step Into Reading' books to help keep Ethan interested.  So far, he has read three of them almost completely on his own.  Wow!

 Two  months before Ethan's fifth birthday, he decides to give himself the best gift of all... learning how to read.  It is so exciting each time he finishes a book - for all of us!

 I am constantly in awe of Ethan's vocabulary and interest in learning.  I wish everyone had the drive and desire he continues to demonstrate.  Imagine what an amazing world we would live in if that were the case...

Baby's First Christmas 2009

On December 22nd, Ethan turned 7 months old (yep, time flies!). On December 25th, he celebrated his first Christmas, and boy was it special, awesome, and wonderful! I was filled with pride and joy as I watched Ethan explore every gift he was given. The amazement in his eyes and the happiness in his smile filled my heart over and over all day. Birthday Reflections

40 years ago, on December 31st 1978, I became the luckiest little girl in the world.  I was born into a family whose love and support would only continue to grow over the years. I knew immediately that I was wanted - and had been the hopes and dreams of my parents for almost five years. Daily Thank-You's

A few months ago, Mike arrived home from the Benco National Sales Convention with a new motivation.  The guest speaker he'd listened to had presented some pretty neat concepts that struck something inside Michael's heart.  I'm so grateful because we've instituted a few of those suggestions at home, and I like them... a lot! Forgive me, but I can't remember the speaker's name.  However, one of his observations was regarding the amount of television we watch as a nation.  It's INSANE.  He decided to cut back 'x' hours a week and use that time to do more productive, self-enhancing things.  We have made a sincere effort to limit all of our screen time since then.  Now, of course there are days that we allow more time in front of the boob-tube because we are tired or frustrated.  But, in general, I am very proud of our family's efforts to watch less T.V.
