Progress... Ah...
I am so thankful for my amazing son, Ethan.
Every day he has shown me at least one reason to celebrate life. Every day.
Lately, Ethan's progression with learning new things has impressed me to no end. Letters, colors, words, numbers, opposite concepts... It makes me feel so proud of his willingness to try new things, learn new things, and share in the many activities that Mike and I create to [try to] make learning fun.
Ethan's keen observation skills led him to make his own hamburger sandwich tonight. We gave him bread and pieces of hamburger. He saw Mike and me eating ours as sandwiches, decided to put his ingredients together, and attempt to eat his own. It surprised us both, and made us smile inside and out.
Up? Down. Forward? Backward. Go? Stop. Yes? No. We work on opposites for the sake of creating new word games... and Ethan seems to be getting a lot of those concepts. My favorite is played at pick-up time after school, where I carry him to the car and he tells me when to go and when to stop until we get to the car. We giggle the whole time, and it's good exercise too!
Tonight, during book time before bed, he wanted to read the alphabet book from Grandma. When I asked him to show me different letters, he did pretty well. He is saying almost every letter correctly, or at least very close to perfect. Sometimes, Ethan initiates the 'repeat after me' game we play with saying the alphabet. It's often played in the car on the way home from school... and we get through the entire alphabet with only a few letters that don't sound like the real thing. It's awesome! He's awesome.
Ethan has been working on learning colors since Christmas time. He knows (and says) blue, red, pink, yellow, black, white, purple, and green very consistenly. Brown and orange are a little more difficult, but in just 3 weeks I think we can cut him some slack! :)
Please and thank you are pretty common anymore. And he has his own version of 'I love you'.
I guess I'm writing this to keep for posterity, as part of a way to remember some of Ethan's growth. And part of my reasoning is to share with family, friends, and readers just how amazing my little boy is. He truly is, and I am so thankful for his intelligence, interest, determination, and health.
Speaking of growth and health, Ethan (19.5 months old as I write this) is 34 inches tall, weighs 31 pounds, and wears a size 8-wide shoe. Yep, he's a big boy... and I'll take that for sure! He's happy and healthy and has a very loving soul. What more could we ask for.
