Delusional Drivers

I'm going to blame this one on the hormones... although I really feel this way most of the time...

There are some truly delusional drivers out there! I mean crazy people who make dangerously poor driving decisions every single day. I see it at least a few times a week on my way to and from work (which is only a 2-mile drive).

For example: When the light is turning red, and traffic ahead of you is stopped due to road work, why in the world would you pull into the MIDDLE of the intersection... hoping you just might inch forward enough to keep the tail end of your vehicle from getting hit by oncoming traffic? People - it never happens that way, and you end up blocking traffic (and looking like a fool).

Or, what about the tailgaters. You know the ones... people who drive so closely behind you that you can't see their headlights. What is the purpose of that? Living on the edge, perhaps? It is BEYOND dangerous - no matter how slowly we're driving. Human reaction time just doesn't allow for a complete and safe stop that avoids collision when driving that close to another vehicle. Please, tailgaters, DON'T DO IT!!! I am often tempted to stop - yes, come to a complete stop - in the middle of the road and let the person wait it out. I realize that is illegal, but oh so tempting. I have my own method of lightly tapping the break and waving the person back, which works sometimes. But there are still those mindless, hapless, clueless drivers that don't get it.

Common courtesy indicates that turn signals are a wonderful invention, and they can properly warn others of an impending turn. Why would you not want to notify other drivers (you know, the people with the potential death machine moving at 35+ MPH) that you are going to be turning soon? I've seen so many people brake and brake and brake before their turn that I've thought something was wrong. Nope, just a delusional driver who thought that braking was warning for a turn. That is why manufacturers install turn signals - to warn other drivers that you are planning to make a turn. Please use them; it's just common sense!

And don't get me started on the speed-demons. Those drivers who speed up to pass you before the next traffic light, hoping to get ahead of the long lines of traffic that we are all sitting in. Only a few times in my entire 30 years have I see it actually pay-off for someone. Most of the time, however, that speedster just ends up one car ahead... still sitting in the same line of traffic he/she was in just a few seconds ago. I suppose some people can afford to waste gas all the time by the whole hurry up and wait irony. Not this chick! I'd rather go the pace and drive safely, knowing that the red light up ahead will probably still be red when I get there. So, why race the pace? Delusional, I say!

I guess complaining about all of this really does no good; however, I can't be the ONLY person out there who feels this way... let me know if you get frustrated with these delusional drivers, too. I'd love to hear other stories that get your feathers ruffled; I'm sure I've only named a few of the situations compared to the numerous possibilities.

OMG - I couldn't agree with you more. The thing that seems to be "popular" on the 3-4 lane highways here in Maryland is passing people in the right lane instead of the left lane - AND IT DRIVES ME BATTY!
Normal people driving the speed limit and passing from the left lane can't see these idiots speeding by at 90 MPH in the right lane and I can't tell you how many near accidents I have seen.
The worst part is these people do it when there is a perfectly clear left lane to pass in. They must have left this part out of the MD driving exam.
