Not Cool Enough
I admit it - I am a 'wanna be' when it comes to being cool.
I see cool people at work, at dance class, in the mall, on television, at the gym, in movies, in magazines, online; you get the picture. I yearn to be confident enough to wear the bright colors, trendy clothes, funky nail polish, hip sunglasses, cool hair styles, even bold eye glass frames. Why can't I take the plunge and do just ONE THING that isn't status quo for me?
For example, every time I sit in the chair at my hair salon, I say "Let's go for something funky this time.". And what do I end up with? The same cut with just a few more layers. My husband, Mike, always compliments the style (and I like it, too, in the end), but we both know it looks pretty much the same as when I left the house.
Or what about the outfit I wear to dinner that shows a little too much bra strap? Yeah, I wouldn't get kicked out of the restaurant for my khaki pants and white sleeveless blouse; but that 1/16th of an inch of my shoulder strap makes me so fidgety. What?!?! Really!?!?
Colors... now, there is something that should be fun and exciting for everyone! Mix and match with freedom, my friends (hey, I watch What Not to Wear on TLC). Well, it should be fun and exciting, but it becomes stressful for me. What if my color of blue isn't quite right for the skirt I'm wearing? What if my sandals don't look perfect with the nail polish on my toes? What if I have pink polish on my toes and mauve on my fingers? What if... uh oh...
Oh, I get it - I'm a prissy prep! Man, I'd hoped to grow out of that phase from high school. I guess when you get comfortable with a style (AKA public persona), it's hard to break the mold. If you have broken out of your personal rut, I'd love to learn any tricks of the trade. Please!
The people in my life are way cool (I'm a lucky chick, really). I need to do something to catch up with the clan and hold my own in today's fast-paced and fashionable society. It's common sense to want to fit in, but what do you do if you just don't?

I think we like a clean, classic look, and it does well for us. Sure, we could pull off hot new stuff, but we don't need it - we look 'pimp' in the classics.
